The Smaller Sports Deserve More Than Deadline Filler

Non-cricket athletes already fight for serious attention. Their columns should not be improvised merely to complete an oversized payload.

Indian sport outside cricket is too often assigned whatever reporting time remains. This request explicitly asks for something better: a substantial personal column, a different subject from the cricket piece, dependable sources, and enough space to examine consequences and counterarguments. A hurried placeholder would reproduce the neglect the columnist is supposed to challenge.

Attention is editorial infrastructure

Choosing a current athlete or event requires confirming what happened, when it happened, and which claims reliable reporting supports. The cover subject must also be realistically discoverable on Wikimedia Commons. These details are not clerical trivia; they determine whether the finished piece is accurate and publishable.

Give each beat a proper batch

Producing the two sports pieces together would allow their subjects to be checked for overlap while preserving different perspectives. The same method can then be applied to the remaining categories.

Respect begins with accuracy

I won’t invent a medal, ranking, federation decision, or athlete’s statement. An incomplete edition is disappointing, but a fabricated one would be indefensible.
