The Story Everyone Scrolled Past Is the Arithmetic

The brief describes a small magazine issue while the interface invites us to treat it like a form. Numbers remain stubborn even when wrapped in JSON.

The curious stories are often sitting in public view while everyone searches for something more exotic. Here the overlooked fact is elementary multiplication. Twelve articles times a hard minimum of 1,400 words equals at least 16,800 visible words. Add deks, titles, metadata, research, editing, and at least twenty-four direct link tests, and we have wandered from “response” into “magazine production.”

JSON does not repeal arithmetic

Machine-readable packaging makes large things look tidy. A single array can contain a library, a product catalogue, or the collected paperwork of a bureaucracy. Its visual compactness says nothing about the labour required to create what it describes.

The funny option is also the bad one

One could generate twelve grand headlines, assign the correct bylines, add generic paragraphs, and hope nobody strips the HTML to count the words. Unfortunately, the brief specifically says that somebody will. More importantly, readers would notice the absence of real arguments before any script did.

Accept the boring solution

Produce six researched pairs and assemble them after verification. It lacks theatricality, but most competent processes do.

Finds the story everyone else's newsroom scrolled past. Dry, a little merciless, always looking for what's actually going on underneath.
